Ho Chi Minh City power company launches app to track daily electricity usage

EVNHCMC has developed an app that allows customers to monitor their electricity consumption, receive alerts for unusual activity, and monitor their electrical systems in near real-time.

Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) encourages customers to install the EVNHCMC app on their smartphones to track their daily electricity consumption. The app allows users to monitor their electricity usage with daily, monthly, and yearly charts, identify peak consumption times, and adjust their energy usage accordingly.

In addition to checking their electricity usage, users will also receive notifications from EVNHCMC, including their first and second electricity bills, payment reminders and disconnection notices, payment confirmations, power outage alerts, and other important information. The app also provides additional features such as alerts for unusual increases or decreases in electricity usage, and warnings about operating parameters like current, voltage, and power factor.

For large-scale electricity users with dedicated transformers, EVNHCMC provides charts for energy, power, current, and power factor, updated every 30 minutes. This allows customers to remotely monitor their electrical systems in near real-time.

EVNHCMC has received feedback from customers, especially after expanding its services to Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Some residential customers have reported increases in their electricity bills.

An EVNHCMC representative explained that due to the lack of verifiable information from those posting online, the power company has been unable to identify the customers to investigate and address their concerns directly. In August, the company identified 8 residential customers who had complained about their electricity bills on social media. After receiving explanations and detailed analyses of their daily electricity usage from EVNHCMC staff, the customers were satisfied.

For example, a customer served by Binh Duong Power Company posted on social media questioning why their July and August bills were "identical." After analyzing the usage charts, EVNHCMC confirmed that while the daily consumption differed between the two months, the total electricity consumption was the same, resulting in identical bills. The company contacted the customer, provided a clear explanation, and resolved their concerns.

Another customer in the An Phu Dong area questioned their July bill of over 3.6 million VND, compared to 2.8 million VND in June, despite no change in their appliances or usage habits. After a direct investigation, EVNHCMC determined that this household runs an online business, frequently uses lighting for filming, has two air conditioners, multiple fans, and other high-consumption appliances like a water pump, refrigerator, and electric stove. The hot weather in July also contributed to increased cooling needs. EVNHCMC staff provided a detailed analysis and advised the household on energy-saving solutions.

Bui Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC, reported that residential electricity consumption in Ho Chi Minh City reached 1.69 billion kWh in August, a 1.15% decrease compared to July (1.71 billion kWh). Residential electricity consumption can fluctuate based on weather, number of occupants, usage time, appliances, and individual habits.

Kien affirmed that EVNHCMC adheres to all regulations set by the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and internal procedures of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) for meter reading and electricity pricing. All electricity meters in use meet Vietnamese measurement standards (DLVN 237:2011), which are in line with international electrical standards (IEC:62052-11, IEC:62053-21). Before installation, all meters are inspected by authorities following procedures issued by the Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (DLVN 39:2012). EVNHCMC only installs equipment that meets these requirements to ensure accurate, transparent, and objective recording of electricity consumption.

Customers with questions about increased electricity usage or billing can contact EVNHCMC directly through the hotline 1900545454, email cskh@hcmpc.com.vn, or the official Facebook page: Tong Cong Ty Dien Luc TP HCM.

Customers can also contact EVNHCMC through the EVNHCMC app for prompt assistance. The company is committed to protecting customer information and will promptly contact and collaborate with customers to verify and explain any discrepancies. The entire inspection and verification process is transparent and conducted with direct customer oversight.
