The State Bank of Vietnam issued a statement late on 23/1, refuting recent social media rumors about the discontinuation of 1,000 dong to 5,000 dong banknotes.
The State Bank of Vietnam, as the country's leading banking authority, issues, manages, and circulates Vietnamese currency in strict adherence to legal regulations. This ensures that the economy's payment needs are met, aligns with social realities, and protects the legitimate rights and interests of citizens and businesses.
The State Bank of Vietnam urges organizations and individuals to refrain from posting or sharing inaccurate information about the alleged discontinuation of 1,000 dong to 5,000 dong banknotes. Violators will be subject to legal penalties.

In Vietnam, the State Bank of Vietnam holds the exclusive authority to issue currency. The nation currently has 12 denominations of banknotes (polymer and cotton) and 5 denominations of metal coins in legal circulation.
Specifically, polymer banknotes include 6 denominations: 500,000 dong, 200,000 dong, 100,000 dong, 50,000 dong, 20,000 dong, and 10,000 dong. Cotton banknotes, mainly smaller bills, also comprise 6 denominations: 5,000 dong, 2,000 dong, 1,000 dong, 500 dong, 200 dong, and 100 dong.
