Author Ashley St. Clair stated on the Don Lemon Show podcast on June 16 that the incident occurred after she gave birth to her son Romulus, Elon Musk's 13th child. The baby was born in September 2024 in New York. St. Clair found the non-disclosure agreement (NDA) offer shocking, particularly because the billionaire sent the proposal via Signal, an application known for self-deleting messages.
Subsequently, his asset manager, Jared Birchall, presented her with an NDA. St. Clair recounted, "Initially, Elon sent a message to Jared and me, stating: 'Transfer Ashley 15 million USD for a house and contingency funds.' He just sent that. A few days later, Jared called me for a phone conversation lasting about two hours. He explained that we would essentially need some form of confidentiality agreement."

The 27-year-old informed Birchall she would not sign the NDA, even when Elon Musk increased the offer. The entrepreneur proposed giving St. Clair 15 million USD, plus an additional 100,000 USD monthly for 20 years, provided she kept their relationship secret. This meant the total payment would approach 40 million USD. Beyond maintaining confidentiality, she was prohibited from disparaging Elon Musk or discussing other matters, including those concerning his employees and associates.
"At that time, I responded to Jared, saying: 'My conscience will not allow me to sign it,'" St. Clair stated. She explained her refusal to comply with Elon Musk's wishes, believing the decision would not benefit her children. "I made the decision based on moral values. I told him: 'I would rather move into a studio apartment with my two children than sign this agreement,'" St. Clair added. Before Romulus, she had one child from a previous relationship. The author confirmed she has not spoken to Elon Musk since the NDA incident.

Since then, her relationship with the billionaire has become strained, leading to multiple court disputes over child-rearing.
In May, she again drew attention on TikTok by revealing her reasons for having a child with Elon Musk, recounting their happy relationship. St. Clair stated that the billionaire encouraged her decision to have another baby. She also desired a financially stable partner like him to ensure her children received good care. The author noted their relationship deteriorated after she became pregnant.
Elon Musk, 55, is currently the world's wealthiest individual, with a fortune exceeding 1.2 trillion USD, according to Forbes. He owns or operates various businesses across different sectors, including SpaceX, a rocket development company; X, a social media platform formerly known as Twitter; and electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.
In addition to his child with St. Clair, he has 13 children with three other women.
