Chopard unveils watch commemorating 70th anniversary of world's 'most beautiful' vintage car race

The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph, limited to 70 pieces globally, features a sophisticated design, a 40.5 mm diameter, and a precise chronograph movement.

In 2025, Chopard introduces the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph "Tribute to Sir Stirling Moss," commemorating the 70th anniversary of the legendary British driver Sir Stirling Moss's victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia, a vintage car race dubbed the "most beautiful in the world" held in Italy. This grueling 1,600 km open-road endurance race runs from Brescia to Rome and back.

The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is crafted from Chopard's proprietary Lucent Steel alloy, with a 40.5 mm diameter and a precise chronograph movement. This limited edition is restricted to just 70 pieces worldwide.

Its opaline silver dial draws inspiration from the matte finish of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR that carried Moss to victory. Hands and indices coated with Super-LumiNova Grade X1 ensure optimal visibility in all conditions. The self-winding mechanical chronograph movement is COSC-certified and offers a 54-hour power reserve. The sapphire crystal case back features an engraving of the Mille Miglia route, the limited edition number, and the Union Jack flag—a tribute to the legendary driver's British heritage.

This special watch symbolizes the remarkable feat achieved by Sir Stirling Moss and his co-driver, Denis Jenkinson. Using an 18-foot "roadbook," the pair communicated effectively through hand signals amidst the roar of the engine, guiding their Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR to the finish line in 10 hours, 7 minutes, and 48 seconds, maintaining an average speed of nearly 160 km/h throughout the course. This achievement remains unbroken after 70 years of Mille Miglia history.

Since 1988, Chopard has been the global sponsor and official timekeeper of the Mille Miglia. The passion for speed has been passed down through generations of the Scheufele family, with Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard's Co-President, having personally participated in every race since 1989. The close relationship between the brand and Sir Stirling Moss stemmed from their shared love for the values of the Mille Miglia.
