In 2022, Tran Khai Thai experienced severe symptoms of depression. He withdrew from society, feeling stressed and fearful, and sleeping pills proved ineffective. The only person Tran Khai Thai trusted and felt safe with was his wife, piano teacher Tran Y Hang.
During this challenging period, Tran Y Hang paused her teaching career to provide constant support to her husband, staying by his side 24/7. She encouraged him to seek professional help from a psychiatrist and to diligently follow medical advice, including medication and exercise.
Additionally, faith played a significant role in helping the actor navigate his difficult psychological state. He has now recovered about 70% and is ready to resume his career. The actor advises other depression patients to overcome barriers and seek treatment. "The therapy process can be lengthy, but taking medication on time can alleviate the condition," Tran Khai Thai stated.

Tran Khai Thai is deeply grateful for Tran Y Hang's patience and understanding, recognizing that she also endured emotional hardship during those years. He regards his wife as a "saint," the only person who could truly help him. Tran Khai Thai considers himself fortunate, believing that finding a compatible life partner is even more challenging than winning the lottery.
The couple has been together for 28 years. Before marriage, they mutually agreed not to have children. The actor explained that as a father, he would be strict and demanding, potentially losing his temper if his children went against his wishes. Furthermore, Tran Khai Thai has no strong desire to be a father and does not enjoy lengthy conversations or playing with young children. Tran Y Hang also prefers a life focused solely on their relationship.
Tran Khai Thai shared that neither he nor his wife has many material desires. They have lived in the same apartment for decades and care for pets. Tran Y Hang does not purchase expensive designer items. Both are comfortable and happy with their current living situation and have no plans to move to a larger, newer home.
Tran Khai Thai grew up in an affluent family and pursued an economics degree in Canada. In 1984, he returned to Hong Kong to work in a bank. Finding the job unfulfilling, he resigned and entered the entertainment industry in 1990.
The actor starred in many TVB series, including Bang Chung Thep 2, Than Dieu Dai Hiep 1995 (as Doan Chi Binh), Nan Huynh Nan De, and Dia Nguc Thien Su. From 1998, he worked for ATV, earning critical acclaim for his performances in Khu Ta Diet Ma, Tung Hoanh Tu Hai, and Hiep Cot Nhan Tam. Beyond acting, Tran Khai Thai also gained significant recognition as the host of the Hong Kong version of "Ai La Trieu Phu."
