Hung Huynh learns contemporary folk singing with Hoa Minzy

Singer Gemini Hung Huynh received vocal guidance from Hoa Minzy for his first foray into contemporary folk music.

The music video "Dep Ma" garnered nearly 300,000 views within two days of its release.

Singer Hung Huynh recently expressed his excitement and nervousness about performing a genre outside his usual style in the music video "Dep Ma", which premiered on 19/3. Previously, Hung Huynh was known for modern productions that showcased his strong dance skills. Through this new project, the artist aims to present a fresh image and step beyond his comfort zone.

The collaboration between Hung Huynh and Hoa Minzy has attracted significant attention. The partnership began when Hung Huynh sent a demo to Hoa Minzy for feedback. Impressed by the melody and spirit of the song, Hoa Minzy proactively suggested they sing together.

Hoa Minzy guided Hung Huynh on singing before recording. He shares a close bond with the senior artist, often calling Hoa Minzy "mother" and referring to himself as "child" in everyday life.

During their work, Hoa Minzy mentored Hung Huynh on how to grasp the essence of contemporary folk music, including specific vocal embellishments to capture its unique flavor. Over the years, Hoa Minzy has been acclaimed for her success in traditional music, notably with hits like "Thi Mau", "Ken Ca Chon Canh", and "Bac Bling". Hung Huynh stated, "I feel reassured and more confident having her accompany me on this project."

Hung Huynh also teamed up with songwriter Tuan Cry and producer Masew, the crew behind the sensation "Bac Bling", which boasts 300 million views on YouTube. The singer shared, "For me, collaborating with experienced individuals to spread ethnic music is the greatest joy."

For the arrangement, Masew blended numerous traditional instruments with electronic elements, creating a vibrant atmosphere. A rap section in the middle of the song further enhances the rhythm. The music video's visuals were overseen by creative director Ben Pham and director Jason. The crew incorporated various images and models of horses, representing the Binh Ngo (Fire Horse) zodiac animal, symbolizing endurance and the ambition to overcome challenges. Artists, guests, and dancers in the video wore ao dai, complementing their outfits with paper fans and masks in many scenes.

Gemini Hung Huynh, whose real name is Huynh Hoang Hung, is 27 years old and hails from Dong Nai. In 2024, he gained significant recognition after participating in "Anh Trai Say Hi", reaching the finals. From being a lesser-known artist, Hung Huynh emerged as a promising talent in Vietnamese showbiz. During the show, he performed notable songs such as "I'm Thinking About You", "Dau Doi Sung", and "10/10". In the same year, he won the title of "My Nam Cua Nam" (Male Star of the Year) at the Star of the Year awards.

Over the past two years, Hung Huynh has been a prominent figure at many Vbiz events and a brand ambassador for various companies. He has released music products like "Chang The Nham Mat" and "Bang Quo", both accumulating millions of views.
