The incident propelled "Jing Tian" to the top of Weibo's trending topics. Her management company's representative stated the false information severely damaged the actress's reputation. Jing Tian's legal team has since gathered evidence and initiated a lawsuit against those responsible for spreading the rumors.
Jing Tian has worked in entertainment for 20 years, starring in films like My Beautiful Boss, The Warring States, Special ID, Police Story 2013, From Vegas to Macau, The Great Wall, and Kong: Skull Island. Critics did not highly praise her performances in these early works. Her career saw a turning point after the 2021 series Rattan, where audiences lauded her acting and beauty in her role as a demoness.
The actress previously dated table tennis player Zhang Jike, the men's singles champion at the 2012 London Olympics. Since their breakup in 2019, Jing Tian has kept her romantic life private.
Celebrity use of surrogacy services generates significant public interest. In 2001, China banned surrogacy, citing legal and ethical concerns. These included coercion for abortions of female fetuses and abandonment of children with disabilities. This prohibition led to a rise in services facilitating Chinese citizens seeking surrogacy abroad. According to Sina, during the Covid-19 pandemic, many children born via international surrogacy arrangements were unable to return to China.
In 2021, actress Zheng Shuang faced exposure for using surrogacy services in the US. Ifeng reported that her ex-husband, Zhang Heng, publicly released audio recordings accusing Zheng Shuang of suggesting abortions and contract termination. Amid intense criticism, Zheng Shuang claimed she was distraught by Zhang Heng's betrayal at the time, leading to her thoughtless remarks.
When Zhang Heng's parents visited to apologize, Zheng Shuang proposed an abortion, which was impossible as the fetuses were already 7 months along. The actress stated that her parents, out of concern for her, then suggested Zhang Heng's family give the children up for adoption.
After the two children were born, Zhang Heng raised them in the US. In 2021, Zheng Shuang traveled to the US to seek custody. The court granted Zhang Heng guardianship of the two children, allowing Zheng Shuang visitation at scheduled times weekly. Zheng Shuang has resided in the US for 5 years, without returning to China.
