Maggie Cheung embraces a life close to nature

Hong Kong star Maggie Cheung cultivates flowers and enjoys homegrown produce near her residence in rural France.

On her personal page on 23/1, the 62-year-old actress posted a video showcasing her daily life in rural Bordeaux. One of Maggie Cheung's greatest joys there is the abundance of fresh, sweet fruits growing wild. These fruits, found along roadsides, are free for her to gather.

"Each season, nature bestows upon us different kinds of vegetables and fruits. If you want to be healthy and enjoy the best food, eat what nature provides seasonally," the actress stated.

She shared that fruits around her home blossom and ripen quickly, so not picking them at the right time means missing the opportunity. Thus, while strolling, upon seeing fragrant ripe figs, Maggie Cheung braved the rain to pick them for jam, preventing them from falling due to overripeness.

The actress is currently investing effort and money into her "dream garden" in Bordeaux. She purchased land, hired people to clear weeds, tested the soil quality, and then selected various plant and flower seeds for cultivation. Maggie Cheung shared that this rural life is full of hope and eager anticipation. Each step of gardening brings her joy and excitement, making her feel connected to the rhythm of plants, leaving no room for sorrow. According to Maggie Cheung, life in the countryside is simple and peaceful.

She believes that while beauty isn't essential, being interesting and doing interesting things is. The actress appreciates the youthful freshness and innocence of youth, and also embraces the confidence and maturity that comes with age.

Maggie Cheung joined TVB in 1983 after winning first runner-up in the Miss Hong Kong pageant. That same year, she competed in Miss World and reached the top 15. At TVB, she left her mark through series like Police Cadet and The Grand Canal.

The star won Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 2004 for the film Clean, directed by Olivier Assayas. Since 2012, she has stopped acting and limited her appearances at entertainment events.

Maggie Cheung does not publicly disclose her romantic life. She has been in relationships with several individuals, including director Er Dongsheng, businessman Song Xueqi, and French businessman Guillaume Brochard. She married French director Olivier Assayas in 1998, divorcing three years later. The actress stated, "Marriage made me realize I am completely unsuitable for marriage."
