On April 15, actress Bai Bingbing, 71, shared on her personal page that April 14 is a day she will never forget, as it marks when her daughter, Bai Xiaoyan, was kidnapped and tortured nearly three decades ago.
According to Next Apple, Bai Xiaoyan was the victim of one of the most serious kidnapping cases in Taiwan's judicial history, which shocked society. The incident occurred when the 17-year-old girl was on her way to school. Three kidnappers tortured the victim and demanded a ransom of 130 million New Taiwan dollars (4,4 million USD).
Bai Xiaoyan was the daughter of Bai Bingbing and a Japanese painter. They married in 1978, divorced in 1981, and their daughter lived with her mother.

Police launched an investigation but could not locate the hostage. Bai Xiaoyan's body was discovered on April 28. By August of the same year, police traced the suspects, leading to a shootout in which one officer died. In November 1997, the three suspects were apprehended. During their escape, the group of suspects caused the deaths of 5 people and injured 10. The suspect, Chen Jinxing, sexually assaulted at least 19 individuals. In 1999, Chen Jinxing and his two accomplices were executed.
The artist revealed that over the years, she went through difficult phases, from feeling shattered to questioning the meaning of life. Hoping to have another child, she underwent in vitro fertilization 16 times, but all attempts were unsuccessful.
Bai Bingbing shared that while the pain gradually subsides, the scar remains. There are nights when she feels vulnerable, shedding tears unexpectedly, but the next day, she wipes them away and does what needs to be done. Her love and longing for her daughter help her persevere, think more optimistically, and turn towards the sun.
She wrote: "Perhaps heaven wants me to be alone, but it turns out I am not alone at all, as many people genuinely care for and love me. I will strive so that these people do not have to worry about me."
Following the case, Bai Bingbing established the Bai Xiaoyan Cultural and Educational Foundation, undertaking public projects to protect and educate youth. She once told Nandu that her daughter's kidnapping case caused her extreme suffering, but she never wanted to give up on life. Bai Bingbing said, "I believe that when heaven closes one door, it opens another for you. From the suffering of life and death to nirvana, from mortal troubles to enlightenment. Perhaps one day, you will see me building a hermitage on some mountain or coastline, practicing spiritual cultivation there."
