Abdominal deformity after scar treatment injection following liposuction

After liposuction and scar treatment, a 25-year-old woman experienced pain, and doctors discovered damaged abdominal tissue causing white necrosis.

On 4/9, Doctor Nguyen Minh Nghia from the Cosmetic Surgery Department of Hoe Nhai General Hospital reported a patient who underwent liposuction in April at a cosmetic facility. Three months later, she visited a spa for a scar treatment package consisting of three sessions over 10 days.

After the injections, the patient felt discomfort and pain at the injection site, prompting her to seek medical attention. Doctor Nghia determined that the abdominal tissue had been damaged, resulting in white necrosis. An ultrasound confirmed the deep tissue damage.

Doctor Nghia diagnosed the patient with complications arising from post-operative care, leading to abdominal deformity. "This case requires further monitoring. If the abdominal skin can stretch, it can be managed; otherwise, reconstructive surgery will be necessary to address the necrosis," he said. The patient was prescribed medication, and the necrosis was controlled, alleviating the persistent pain.

Doctor Nghia noted a recent increase in cases of complications following abdominal liposuction. One example is a 50-year-old female patient from Thanh Hoa who had undergone the procedure seven years prior. However, due to receiving treatment at a disreputable facility, the patient's excess skin and abdominal muscles were not properly addressed, resulting in sagging, uneven skin, and an unsatisfactory aesthetic outcome.

According to the doctor, three factors contribute to a successful abdominal liposuction: the correct surgical technique suited to the patient's condition; precise surgical technique and stitching, where in addition to removing excess fat and skin, the doctor (or technician) must stitch and tighten the abdominal muscles for internal firmness; and proper, attentive post-operative care to ensure optimal recovery.

"Failure in any of these three factors will lead to undesirable results and potential complications," he stated.

Doctor Nghia advises against trusting advertisements on social media platforms and recommends choosing reputable cosmetic surgery facilities with proven expertise. A wise initial decision will save time, money, and, most importantly, ensure health and safety.
