On 21/8, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) issued the recall after the Center for Drug, Cosmetics and Food Testing - Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department tested a sample from CoopXtra Tan Phong - SC Vivo in District 7. The test revealed the presence of methylparaben, which was not declared in the product's registered formula.
The affected product is Lesgo children's mouthwash, in 150 ml bottles, batch number 0426230724, manufactured and distributed by Ellie Joint Stock Company in Ho Chi Minh City. The mouthwash, marketed online as preventing tooth decay and protecting children's enamel, sells for approximately 30,000-40,000 VND.
The DAV has ordered stores and pharmacies to immediately stop selling and using the affected batch and return it to their suppliers. Provincial and municipal health departments are responsible for recalling and destroying the product. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health is also tasked with revoking the product's registration and investigating Ellie Joint Stock Company's compliance with cosmetics regulations.

Methylparaben is a common preservative in cosmetics and food products, used to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria. However, experts warn that its use in undisclosed amounts, exceeding permitted levels, or without transparency can cause allergies, endocrine disruption, and long-term health problems, particularly for vulnerable groups like children.
Authorities have recently discovered numerous violations at production and business facilities, leading to recalls and destruction of counterfeit and substandard drugs and cosmetics. In June, the DAV conducted surprise inspections of 38 facilities and found 17 in violation. Additionally, 20 provinces and cities inspected 865 manufacturing, importing, and trading establishments, uncovering violations at 48.
