Answer:
Vietnam currently offers a dengue vaccine that protects against all 4 serotypes of the dengue virus (Den-1, Den-2, Den-3, and Den-4). It is administered to individuals from 4 years old to adults, in two doses, three months apart. Two doses of the dengue vaccine prevent over 80% of dengue cases and reduce the risk of hospitalization due to dengue by over 90%. Receiving both doses allows the body to produce antibodies and maximize immunity.
Because your child has only received one dose, their risk of infection remains higher, as their body hasn't yet developed a sufficient antibody response to combat the dengue virus. You should ensure your child receives the second dose on schedule for effective disease prevention.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne infectious disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Symptoms include sudden high fever, fatigue, headache, retro-orbital pain (pain behind the eyes), muscle aches, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes diarrhea. During the fever-reduction phase, the illness can suddenly worsen, potentially leading to complications like dengue shock syndrome, hemorrhagic shock, liver failure, kidney failure, acute heart failure, electrolyte imbalance, infection, multiple organ failure, blood clotting abnormalities, and even death.
Dengue fever is prevalent year-round, peaking between May and November. The hot, humid summer weather combined with heavy rainfall creates ideal conditions for the disease to spread.
In addition to vaccination, preventive measures include maintaining a clean home environment, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, wearing long-sleeved clothing, using mosquito nets even during the day, and using mosquito repellent products, especially while traveling.
If your child contracts dengue fever, seek prompt medical attention and adhere to the doctor's prescribed treatment. Avoid home remedies, self-medication, or relying on folk remedies, as this could delay essential treatment.
