EOB-MRI seminar advances liver cancer diagnosis in Da Nang

Thien Nhan Hospital, in collaboration with the Da Nang Medical Association and Bayer Vietnam, hosted a seminar on 8/8, exploring the role of EOB-MRI in diagnosing liver diseases.

Nearly 200 doctors specializing in diagnostic imaging, general surgery, gastroenterology-hepatology, and oncology, along with technicians from Da Nang and neighboring provinces, attended the event. Themed "Breakthroughs in Liver Tumor Imaging Diagnosis - The Important Role of EOB-MRI," the seminar aimed to enhance medical expertise in central Vietnam.

Speakers and presenters from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City included Associate Professor Doctor Vo Tan Duc, Doctor Tran Cong Duy Long, and Doctor Le Duy Mai Huyen. Doctor Ho Xuan Tuan, Head of the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Medical Technology and Pharmacy in Da Nang, and Doctor Tran Thi Me Tam, Deputy Head of the Diagnostic Imaging Department at Thien Nhan Hospital, also presented.

The seminar highlighted the role of MRI with liver-specific contrast agents (EOB-MRI) in early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), metastasis assessment, and liver transplant support. It also focused on differentiating benign lesions like focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) from adenomas, hemangiomas, and other conditions.

Experts from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that EOB-MRI not only increases diagnostic accuracy but also reduces costs and improves patient outcomes.

Thien Nhan Hospital technicians participated in a hands-on training session focused on EOB-MRI imaging techniques and analysis, led by Doctor Le Duy Mai Huyen, Deputy Head of Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. The training aimed to enhance the skills of medical professionals in implementing this new technique, optimizing diagnostic efficiency and clinical support.

Thien Nhan Hospital has invested in the 3.0 Tesla Lumina MRI system, a next-generation imaging device from Siemens (Germany). This system integrates advanced liver and biliary imaging with the EOB contrast agent Primovist. This technology provides high-resolution images of the liver parenchyma and bile ducts, aiding in the early detection of HCC, small or atypical lesions, and liver metastases that are difficult to detect with conventional ultrasound or CT scans.

In addition to its in-depth analysis capabilities across dynamic phases (arterial, portal venous, delayed, and hepatobiliary), the system supports risk stratification, disease progression monitoring, and personalized treatment planning, improving treatment efficacy and patient outcomes.

Over the past three years, Thien Nhan Hospital has performed hundreds of liver and biliary scans using EOB-MRI, supporting patients in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary diseases, early cancer detection, and stroke risk assessment.
