On 20/8, the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) issued the recall after the Quang Ngai Center for Drug, Cosmetics and Food Testing found two undeclared preservatives, methylparaben and propylparaben, in the product at My Pham Thuong Trang in Cam Thanh ward.
The recalled batch is the 120g tube of Episode BM Beaumore apricot scrub foam cleansing (Apricot Scrub Foam Cleansing, Beaumore brand), batch number HM25. Khang Thinh Import-Export Co., Ltd. (TP HCM) is the company responsible for distributing the product.
The DAV has directed stores and pharmacies to immediately stop selling and using the affected batch and return it to their suppliers. Provincial and municipal Departments of Health are responsible for recalling and destroying the product. The TP HCM Department of Health will revoke the product's cosmetic notification certificate.
Methylparaben and propylparaben are common preservatives in cosmetics and food products, used to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria. However, experts warn that unclear, undisclosed, or excessive use can cause allergies, endocrine disruption, and long-term health problems, particularly for sensitive individuals.
The DAV also ordered a nationwide suspension and recall of Fobe Mouth Ulcer Gel (10g tube, batch number 071124). The product is manufactured by SJK Pharmaceutical Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Hanoi) and distributed by Fobelife JSC (TP HCM). The recall is due to the product failing to meet quality standards for microorganism limits.
Recently, authorities have discovered numerous violations at production and business facilities, leading to the recall and destruction of many counterfeit and substandard drugs and cosmetics. In June, the DAV conducted surprise inspections of 38 facilities and found 17 violations. In addition, 20 provinces and cities inspected 865 manufacturing, importing, and trading establishments, uncovering 48 violations.
