On 11/7, the DAV issued the recall after the Yen Bai Center for Drug, Cosmetics and Food Testing found methylparaben and propylparaben in a batch of Gammaphil face wash (125ml bottle, batch number GMPA010524). These two preservatives were not listed in the product's declared ingredients.
The product is manufactured and distributed by GAMMA Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Production Company Limited (TP HCM). The tested sample was taken from Chau Long Pharmacy in Yen Bai.
The DAV has ordered businesses to stop selling and using the affected batch of face wash. The TP HCM Department of Health has also revoked the product's cosmetic registration.
Methylparaben and propylparaben are common preservatives used in cosmetics and food to prevent mold and bacterial growth. Experts say that undisclosed use, improper dosage, or excessive use of these preservatives can cause allergic reactions, endocrine disruption, and long-term health problems, especially for sensitive individuals.

Authorities have recently uncovered numerous violations at production and business facilities, leading to the recall and destruction of many counterfeit and substandard drugs and cosmetics. In June, the DAV conducted surprise inspections of 38 facilities and found 17 violations. Additionally, 20 provinces and cities inspected 865 production, import, and trading establishments, finding 48 violations.
