Nhat Viet Cosmetics One Member Company Limited, based in Ho Chi Minh City, is responsible for manufacturing and distributing this cosmetic product. Authorities have instructed the company to promptly withdraw lot number 4 (manufactured on 15/9/2023, expiring on 15/9/2028) from the market and submit a report on the resolution results by 18/6. The product is widely sold in stores and on e-commerce platforms, priced at over 40,000 VND per tube.
The issue came to light after the Testing Center under the Thanh Hoa Department of Health collected samples for inspection at a pharmaceutical company. It was found that the aforementioned facial cleanser lot did not meet safe pH thresholds. Regulators emphasize that pH indicates the acidity or alkalinity of a product, playing a crucial role in skin protection. Normal human skin maintains a pH level between 4,5 and 5,5. Therefore, manufacturers must formulate cleansing products to adhere closely to this range to avoid harming consumers.

When a company releases facial cleansers with pH levels above or below the standard, it directly damages the user's skin barrier. Consumers using such products face a high risk of dry skin, tightness, peeling, or severe irritation, which is particularly dangerous for those with sensitive skin. In the long term, substandard cosmetic products can disrupt the skin's natural microbiome, making users more prone to acne and severe inflammation.
Currently, the Drug Administration has assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to directly supervise Nhat Viet Cosmetics' recall and destruction of the non-compliant lot. In parallel, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health is also tasked with inspecting the company's adherence to current legal regulations on cosmetic management.
Since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Health has consistently recalled and destroyed substandard products. Most recently, 779 products, including creams, sunscreens, and facial cleansers, were recalled nationwide for failing to meet manufacturing standards. This action comes as regulatory bodies tighten control over the pharmaceutical and cosmetic markets amid issues of counterfeit goods, substandard products, and false advertising.
