According to both parties, receiving this technology from Cuba will enhance Vietnam's pharmaceutical research and development capabilities. Through the Genfarma project, Vietnamese citizens will have access to high-quality, affordable medicine, especially cancer treatments. This project, a result of close cooperation between the two countries' pharmaceutical sectors, will also improve Vietnam's pharmaceutical security and advance its biotechnology sector, while opening doors for Cuban biotechnology and pharmaceuticals to reach their full potential and expand into the global market.
In May, a joint venture agreement was signed between BioCubaFarma SA (Cuba) and Vietnamese businesses. Three months later, the project has taken shape with modern facilities and a complete organizational structure.
BioCubaFarma has 51 subsidiaries and 9 joint ventures abroad, including 6 overseas production facilities. It currently operates 164 production lines, with 11 located internationally, exporting over 300 products to more than 40 countries. The company has also transferred technology to Brazil, India, Venezuela, Algeria, China, Russia, Iran, and Vietnam.
