In a clinical study conducted by Shiga University of Medical Science in collaboration with Ohkura National Hospital (Japan), six volunteers drank 1 liter per day of alkaline ionized water with pH levels of 9, 10, and 11, respectively. Researchers noted that after drinking alkaline ionized water with a pH of 9, the pH in the stomach increased and remained higher for about 30 minutes, suggesting the water's ability to help control acidity. Acidity is often imbalanced in people with diets high in fat, those who consume alcohol, or those under prolonged stress.
In addition, studies like the one by Dr. Lei Huang (Loma Linda University, USA) show that hydrogen in water can diffuse deep into cells and selectively react with hydroxyl radicals - one of the most harmful free radicals. This selectivity allows hydrogen to target harmful free radicals without affecting other reactive oxygen and nitrogen molecules, which play a role in regulating the cell’s normal biological signaling.
The antioxidant capacity of this water is measured by the ORP index. The lower the negative ORP value, the greater the antioxidant capacity. Therefore, when researching hydrogen-rich alkaline ionized water, consumers should consider factors such as pH, ORP, and hydrogen content to make an informed choice.
