The patient had undergone years of unsuccessful treatment with medication, injections, and physical therapy. He sought help at the 108 Military Central Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with complete erectile dysfunction following pelvic surgery. They recommended a three-piece inflatable penile prosthesis, a modern treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Dr. Nguyen Tuan Dat, Head of the Andrology Department, explained that erectile dysfunction is a common and persistent consequence of pelvic surgeries like radical prostatectomy, bladder removal, or rectal surgery. Penile implant surgery is often the most effective solution for restoring sexual function.
The three-piece implant consists of two cylinders placed inside the penis, a pump in the scrotum, and a fluid reservoir in the abdomen. To achieve an erection, the patient squeezes the pump; afterwards, it can be deflated. This procedure doesn't affect sensation or ejaculation if the testicles and vas deferens are intact.
Three days post-surgery, the patient is recovering well and learning to use the device.

Erectile dysfunction is a significant concern for men, impacting not only physical health but also psychological well-being, relationships, and overall quality of life.
Doctors advise against accepting erectile dysfunction passively. Instead, men should consult specialists for thorough examination and advice. Penile implants are a significant advancement in treating irreversible erectile dysfunction, especially after pelvic surgery.
