On her personal page, nutrition expert Yang Sihan shared that eggs are often called an ideal "nutritional powerhouse". This is due to their high protein absorption rate, affordable price, and diverse cooking methods. Almost every family's refrigerator always has eggs available.
However, consumers still have many misconceptions about handling this food. Many people habitually wash eggs thoroughly with water immediately after buying them, believing this makes them clean. In reality, this is a very common mistake.
To help consumers understand better, the expert has highlighted important notes on washing and storing eggs:
Regarding washing eggs
Packaged eggs at supermarkets
Eggs sold in supermarkets have already undergone professional washing and sterilization processes before leaving the factory. The eggshell naturally has a protective membrane (cuticle) that prevents bacterial penetration and limits moisture loss.
If you wash them with water again after bringing them home, you will unintentionally destroy this protective layer. This significantly increases the risk of the eggs deteriorating and spoiling.
Loose eggs at markets
Loose eggs bought at traditional markets sometimes still have chicken droppings or dirt adhering to them. For these types of eggs, after buying them, simply use a dry cloth or paper towel to gently wipe the surface, then store them in the refrigerator.
Remember: only wash them thoroughly with water just before preparing to cook.

How to store eggs
Place the pointed end facing down
Inside the egg is a structure called an "air cell", usually located at the larger (round) end of the egg. When storing, always remember to place the "round end facing up, pointed end facing down". This method helps the yolk remain centered, thereby effectively extending the eggs' freshness.
Store on interior shelves of the refrigerator
Many people habitually arrange individual eggs in the specialized tray on the refrigerator door. However, the door is frequently opened and closed, causing temperatures to fluctuate strongly. This easily spoils the eggs. The correct method is to place the entire egg carton on the deeper shelves inside the refrigerator.
