Vinmec unveils 'made in Vietnam' medical robot

Vinmec introduced the VinMotion Motion One medical robot and 3D clinical technology at the "Outstanding Achievements in Health and Education" exhibition.

The exhibition took place alongside the National Conference on Dissemination and Implementation of 4 Resolutions of the Politburo, held on 16/9 at the National Assembly House.

Robots become hospital receptionists

The robot, researched and developed by VinMotion engineers and Vinmec Health System experts, can communicate with friendly expressions, support, interact, and provide basic information to patients throughout their visit.

With the ability to welcome and serve hundreds of guests each day, Vinmec plans to deploy the robot in the reception area, acting as a receptionist, supporting medical staff, and enhancing the customer experience.

Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Dung, General Director of Vinmec Health System, said the unit aims to build a smart hospital chain model where robots can communicate naturally and support medical staff in repetitive tasks. "This is an important step towards a future where robots, artificial intelligence, and medical data are combined to provide a personalized and comprehensive medical experience, while still retaining human values in healthcare," Dung said.

At the "Outstanding Achievements in Health and Education" exhibition, delegates directly experienced the VinMotion medical robot, recognizing it as a pioneering step by Vinmec towards a smart hospital model.

3D technology for personalized treatment

In addition to the robot, in the presence of senior Party and State leaders, Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Dung introduced the achievements of applying 3D technology in medicine - a field in which Vinmec is also leading in Vietnam.

Vinmec is one of the first units in Vietnam to master the entire closed 3D technology chain, creating breakthroughs in treatment: 3D-printed anatomical models accurately reproduce complex pathologies; personalized surgical aids help shorten surgery time and reduce complications. Among them, 3D-printed titanium implant technology helps optimally restore both function and form; virtual reality (VR) technology supports doctors and engineers in visually experimenting with procedures before surgery.

These applications have helped Vinmec succeed in many complex cases such as chest wall reconstruction, pelvic replacement, and total femur replacement in children. Instead of using readily available equipment on the market that sometimes does not fully match the patient, Vinmec designs PSI surgical positioning devices and individual artificial joints and bones for each patient, based on CT and MRI data. This device helps increase the accuracy of the surgery, optimize motor function, and shorten recovery time for patients.

Notably, in 9/2024, Vinmec successfully performed surgery to completely remove an 11.5 cm mediastinal tumor and reconstruct part of the chest wall with titanium material. This success makes Vinmec one of the first hospitals in Southeast Asia to apply 3D titanium printing technology in thoracic surgery with an artificial chest wall implant. Following that success, Vinmec also successfully performed a total femur replacement surgery using personalized 3D-printed titanium for the youngest patient in the world.

"Investing in, promoting the application of science and technology, optimizing operations, and developing an academic medical system through groundbreaking research, thereby having effective applications for patients, is our desire and orientation to contribute to raising the level of the country's healthcare so that Vietnamese people receive the best quality healthcare," Prof. Tran Trung Dung added.

According to Professor Tran Trung Dung, the attention from Party and State leaders and ministries, branches, and sectors at the conference is evidence of the belief that Vietnamese intellect can create pioneering solutions, contributing to improving the quality of people's healthcare and raising the position of Vietnamese medicine on the world map.
