The incident occurred at noon on 6/9 in Khanh Lam commune, U Minh district. While returning home from the rice fields to get lunch, the mother and her 3-year-old son were suddenly attacked by a wasp nest that fell from a cajuput tree. According to witnesses, the woman was unable to escape because she was protecting her child.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, the woman died at 10 p.m. the same day due to the sheer number of stings. The boy, who suffered approximately 50 stings, is currently in critical condition and receiving intensive care at Ca Mau Obstetrics and Children's Hospital.
On 7/9, leaders of the Khanh Lam Commune People's Committee (CPC) visited and provided initial support to the victim's family.
According to medical experts, wasp venom contains highly potent toxins that can cause dangerous complications such as anaphylactic shock, multiple organ failure, blood clotting disorders, and death if not treated promptly, especially with a large number of stings. Doctors recommend that if stung by a wasp, people should remain calm, administer first aid, and quickly go to the nearest medical facility for proper treatment to avoid unfortunate consequences.
