The obstetrics team performed an emergency procedure to remove the remaining placenta and inserted a balloon to control the bleeding.
On 6/8, Dr. Huynh Thanh Liem, deputy director of Can Tho City Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, reported that the patient was no longer in critical condition, but her situation remained serious. He added that this is not an uncommon occurrence. The hospital has treated numerous cases of severe complications from unsafe abortions, mostly due to self-administered medications or procedures performed at unlicensed facilities.

"Many medications of unknown origin, including counterfeit and substandard products, are currently being sold on the market," Dr. Liem said.
