This was the woman's second pregnancy, distinguished by being a natural triplet conception, not through in vitro fertilization. Multiple pregnancies often carry higher risks of complications compared to single pregnancies. Fortunately, this mother did not experience common issues like pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes.
At 33 weeks and six days into the pregnancy, the mother's water broke prematurely at home. Her family promptly took her to Lang Son Provincial General Hospital. Doctors determined she was in natural labor, with premature rupture of membranes occurring at the site of a previous cesarean section scar.
On 16/12, a representative from Lang Son Provincial General Hospital confirmed that this was a case of identical triplets, sharing one placenta but having three amniotic sacs. Doctors administered lung maturation medication to the fetuses before performing a planned cesarean section. The three healthy baby girls were born, weighing 1,6 kg, 1,8 kg, and 2,1 kg respectively, and are currently receiving monitoring and care in the pediatrics department.

Natural triplets occur when a single fertilized egg spontaneously divides into three embryos. Medical literature worldwide reports this rare event in approximately one in 8,000 births. In Vietnam, a few hospitals occasionally record natural triplet pregnancies. Most of these deliveries are planned cesarean sections, as mothers often lack the physical strength for a natural birth of three babies, and such pregnancies carry numerous risks.
Mothers expecting multiples must pay close attention to their diet, as the fetuses' nutritional needs can be two to three times higher than in a single pregnancy. Adequate nutrient intake is crucial to reduce the risk of malnutrition for the babies, both during gestation and after birth. Mothers should prioritize rest and relaxation, avoiding overexertion to minimize the risk of pregnancy complications.
Regular antenatal check-ups are essential for expectant mothers. Doctors closely monitor fetal development and maternal health to promptly detect and manage any abnormal signs.
