On 29/1, Dung was detained by An Giang Provincial Police for investigation into murder.

Initial investigations revealed that Dung and his 58-year-old elder brother shared a home in My Thanh Hamlet, Chau Doc Ward. They frequently argued due to verbal disagreements. On the evening of 23/1, during a conversation, the two brothers again argued, exchanged harsh words, and this escalated into a physical altercation.

The elder brother used a broom and his hands to strike Dung's face. Dung retaliated, pushed his brother down, sat on him, and strangled him. When neighbors arrived to intervene, they discovered the victim was dead and reported it to authorities.

Confessing to the police, Mr. Dung admitted to the act.
