On 20/9, the Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Provincial Police announced it had issued an administrative violation fine to a 35-year-old male driver residing in Hoa Phu commune, Dak Lak province. The penalty was for illegally overtaking in situations where it is prohibited.
The action followed a report submitted by citizens on 28/8 via the VNeTraffic application. The report detailed a semi-trailer truck overtaking another vehicle on Ho Chi Minh Road (National Highway 14), specifically through Truong Xuan commune (formerly Dak Nong).
A video clip accompanying the report captured the semi-trailer truck overtaking on a curved section of the road. This maneuver was performed under unsafe conditions, posing a significant danger to other vehicles traveling on the highway.
Following verification, Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 summoned the driver for questioning. When presented with the images and video collected by authorities, the driver admitted the violation and accepted the penalty.
According to current regulations, a vehicle driver who illegally overtakes faces a fine of 4-6 million VND and a deduction of two points from their driver's license.
The Lam Dong Provincial Police's Traffic Police Department advises drivers, especially those operating heavy trucks and container vehicles, to only overtake when conditions are safe and permitted. They urge drivers to avoid overtaking in prohibited areas, locations with limited visibility, intersections, or any position posing a potential safety risk.
