Driver arrested for destroying female passenger's luggage at Tan Son Nhat

A woman arriving at Tan Son Nhat after a flight called ride-hailing driver Bui Quang Hieu, but then refused the ride due to his apparent intoxication, leading him to verbally abuse, assault her, and destroy her luggage.

Bui Quang Hieu, 35, a ride-hailing driver, was arrested by TP HCM Police on 9/3 to investigate public disturbance.

According to the investigation, the incident occurred in the early morning of 8/3. A 39-year-old woman, who had just flown from Hanoi to TP HCM, went to gate 2 of Terminal 3 to find a ride home. She inquired about Hieu's fare but, noticing signs of alcohol consumption, declined the ride and moved to another spot to wait for a different vehicle.

Believing the passenger had "called a car but didn't go", Hieu began yelling at her. He then dragged her luggage into the middle of the road and destroyed it. The altercation ceased only when other ride-hailing drivers and bystanders intervened.

Upon receiving reports, Bay Hien Ward Police, in coordination with professional units, quickly verified the information and brought Hieu to the station for questioning.

Police authorities stated that Hieu's actions caused public disorder in a crowded area, negatively impacting security at the Tan Son Nhat Airport gateway and provoking public outrage.

TP HCM Police advised the public to behave civilly in public spaces, emphasizing that any acts of public disturbance, property damage, or threatening others' safety will face strict penalties.
