According to police records, on 7/7/2023, Nguyen Dat Han (41), residing in Hai Chau district, was attacked while walking in front of his house on Phan Dang Luu street. An assailant, later identified as Duy, attacked Mr. Han from behind with a knife, causing a severe cut to his right thigh. Simultaneously, an accomplice on a motorbike, Pham Van Viet (41, from Hanoi), picked up Duy, and they fled the scene. Mr. Han sustained a 50% injury rate.
Investigation revealed the attack stemmed from a business dispute between Mr. Han and Pham Chien Thang (52, from Hai Phong). Both were major shareholders in a Da Nang project. Authorities accuse Thang of bringing a group of workers from Hai Phong to control extraction activities, which Mr. Han believed exceeded contractual agreements. Mr. Han responded by blocking access with vehicles, leading to escalating tension.
Thang was then alleged to have directed Tran Ngoc Anh (59, from Hanoi), Vu, Huyen, Nguyen Phi Hung (39, from Da Nang), and Duy to plan the assault on Mr. Han to "teach him a lesson".
The investigative agency prosecuted and temporarily detained Thang and several other individuals involved. However, Duy, Vu, and Huyen fled the locality and were issued extremely dangerous wanted notices.
Through tracking, police discovered all three were hiding in Thailand. In mid-January 2026, a working group from the Ministry of Public Security and Da Nang Police collaborated with the Royal Thai Police. This cooperation led to the arrest of Vu and Huyen in Pattaya, Chon Buri province. Duy later surrendered.
After being penalized for illegal residency violations with fines, the three were deported and handed over to Vietnamese authorities at Bangkok airport on 29/1. The suspects are currently in temporary detention for further investigation and expansion of the case.
