Online football betting scheme leads to 4 arrests

Nguyen Minh Hung and three accomplices have been criminally detained, accused of operating an online football betting ring with total transactions exceeding 3,5 billion VND.

On 2/6, Lam Dong Provincial Police announced the criminal detention of Nguyen Minh Hung, Bui Huu Minh, Vo Tri Hung, and Le Hoang Hai, aged 30 to 52, on suspicion of organizing gambling and engaging in gambling.

Investigators had previously identified numerous individuals participating in online football betting through various websites in several communes and wards within the former Binh Thuan area. Minh's group came under scrutiny and was subsequently summoned on 21/5.

Initial findings reveal that in April, Minh, residing in Ham Kiem commune, contacted Hung, residing in Ham Thuan Bac commune, to acquire a football betting account on the Bong88 (Viva88) website. Minh then subdivided this account into multiple member accounts, distributing them to gamblers to profit from the betting differentials.

Additionally, Vo Tri Hung, residing in Mui Ne ward, and Hai, residing in Tuyen Quang commune, also used these provided accounts to place monetary bets on football matches from that time until their summons on 21/5.

Police are continuing to expand the investigation and process the case.

Lam Dong Provincial Police urges residents to refrain from participating in any form of football betting during the upcoming 2026 World Cup season.
