The investigation revealed Huy knew his distant relatives, living in an apartment at the Royal Park area, Thanh Son residential group, Vu Ninh ward, were affluent. This knowledge led him to plan the theft. On the morning of 14/2, while the family was away celebrating Tet, Huy used a small iron cutter to pry open the main door.
Once inside, Huy cut open the safe. He stole gold rings, gold bean-shaped items, gold spoons, and a gold vase, totaling 5,3 taels. Huy then sold the stolen items in various locations across Bac Ninh and Quy Nhon ward, Gia Lai province, earning 887 million dong. The teenager spent this money on personal expenses and traveling during the Tet Nguyen Dan holiday.
The homeowner discovered the theft on 12/3 and reported it to the authorities. Within 10 hours of the report, police arrested Huy. He was found hiding in an apartment in Gia Lam commune, Hanoi.
