On 26/8, leaders of the Thanh Hoa provincial police's economic police department announced that the provincial police investigation agency has indicted Le Thi Thanh Hang, 34, known as TikToker "Hang Le Sam Ngoc Linh", residing in Dong Tien commune, for customer deception under Article 198 of the 2015 Penal Code.
Investigators reported that in 2023, Hang encountered difficulties trading products derived from Kon Tum Ngoc Linh ginseng due to its high cost.
While participating in online ginseng trading groups, Hang found other ginseng varieties that resembled Ngoc Linh ginseng but were significantly cheaper. She then contacted a supplier in Lao Cai.
Police allege Hang knew the purchased ginseng was not authentic Ngoc Linh ginseng. Despite this, she used her TikTok account "Hang Le Sam Ngoc Linh" to livestream, promote, and sell it, claiming it was genuine Kon Tum product. Many customers, trusting her claims, mistakenly bought the fake ginseng. Beyond direct sales, Hang also provided the ginseng to her younger sister, Le Thanh Hau, 28, to sell via social media.

Hang and others involved in the fake Ngoc Linh ginseng trade ring are currently prohibited from leaving their residences, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Thanh Hoa provincial police advise residents to exercise caution when buying high-value products online, especially ginseng advertised and sold during livestream sessions.
Consumers must thoroughly verify product origin, provenance, quality, and relevant documentation. They should not rely solely on information or promises from online sellers during transactions.
