Giang, residing in Ha Huy Tap ward, was arrested and detained on charges of "Fraudulent appropriation of property," under Article 174 of the Penal Code. The procedural decisions were approved by the People's Procuracy Region I - Ha Tinh and announced on 30/1.

According to the investigation, Giang and Nguyen had known each other for many years and jointly invested in real estate. In 4/2025, the two women pooled their money to place a deposit on a land plot in Thach Xuan commune (formerly Thach Ha district) with the intention of flipping it for profit.

When the payment deadline arrived, Giang was unable to fulfill the contract and consequently forfeited the deposit, losing 150 million VND.

Authorities allege that Giang then provided false information about contributing money to purchase the land plot, convincing Nguyen to transfer 320 million VND to her, purportedly to settle the payment with the landowner. Upon receiving the money, Giang used it to pay off personal debts and for her own expenses.

After multiple unsuccessful attempts to get specific information about the land transaction and related documents from Giang, Nguyen realized she had been deceived and reported the incident to the police.
