A mother's unexpected love story

After years as a single mother, 50-year-old Xin from Guangzhou, China, found love with her son's college friend, a Russian man 20 years her junior.

On 8/6, Xin announced her pregnancy in a video shared online. Acknowledging the risks of having a child at her age, she expressed her belief that it was worthwhile. She and her husband have already purchased a crib, preparing for their child's arrival next spring.

Living in a villa on the outskirts of Guangzhou, Xin often shares her daily life with her husband.

Divorced at 30, Xin raised two children on her own. Six years ago, her son, Kaikai, invited three international classmates home for Lunar New Year dinner.

Among them was Defu, a Russian final-year student fluent in Mandarin after years of studying in China.

Impressed by Xin's hospitality and culinary skills, Defu stayed at her house for a week. He kept in touch afterward, surprising her with gifts over the next several years.

"I was still young and attractive back then," Xin recalled. However, due to the age gap, cultural differences, and her previous divorce, she initially rejected Defu's advances. Only after encouragement from her son did she decide to give the relationship a chance.

The couple registered their marriage earlier this year and have since traveled throughout China. During one trip, they encountered a single mother caring for a sick child and offered their assistance. "Women can be fragile, but motherhood makes them strong. I truly admire her," Xin told her husband. Defu replied, "Don't worry, from now on, I'll protect you."

The relationship between the middle-aged businesswoman and the young Russian student quickly became a hot topic on Chinese social media. Many expressed support and admiration for Xin's pursuit of happiness, while others questioned the relationship's authenticity.

In response to the mixed reactions, Xin shared her ultrasound image online, stating, "Time will prove our love."
