Lan’s daughter is in 4th grade. Both parents work full-time, and with grandparents living far away, their daughter is left at home with a tablet, instructed to study online and watch educational videos.
“It’s difficult to know if she’s actually doing that," Lan shared. "Every day when I come home from work, I see her glued to the screen. It worries me.”

Since the beginning of June, Do Thi Thuan’s, 35, office in Ha Dong district (Hanoi) has become a makeshift playground for her five-year-old daughter. Each morning, Thuan packs a backpack with clothes, snacks, and a tablet to keep her daughter occupied while she works. “She’s well-behaved and doesn’t fuss, but it’s still concerning to see her with a screen all day," Thuan confided. "I worry about her watching inappropriate content or playing unsuitable games. It impacts my work and creates constant anxiety.”
Lan and Thuan's concerns resonate with many urban parents. Sending children to stay with relatives isn't always feasible, and not everyone has grandparents available to help. The high cost of summer camps and skills classes often leaves parents with little choice but to rely on technology as a temporary childcare solution.

The World Health Organization (WHO) projects that myopia rates among Asian children, including those in Vietnam, will reach a staggering 80-90% by 2050. This alarming figure is largely attributed to increased screen time, particularly during summer breaks. Psychologists also warn about emotional dysregulation, reduced attention spans, and mild depression in children with excessive screen time and insufficient physical activity.
Without parental guidance, children can be exposed to inappropriate content like violent videos, harmful websites, and negative social media trends. Some children develop online gaming addictions, retreating into virtual worlds and neglecting social interaction, which can negatively impact their mental well-being.
Rather than resorting to outright bans or complete freedom, many modern parents are turning to smart technology solutions for effective monitoring, especially during summer. ESafe, a "digital assistant," is one popular choice, providing comprehensive oversight of children’s online activities, even when parents aren’t physically present.
ESafe addresses the anxieties of parents like Lan and Thuan. It provides automatic alerts for new app usage, limits access to educational and entertaining content, and guides children towards responsible device use. This allows children to engage with technology within safe and controlled boundaries, mitigating risks like gaming addiction, eyesight problems, psychological issues, and social disconnection.
