Just over a year after leaving Brentford for the Saudi Pro League, Toney led Al Ahli to the AFC Champions League title, scoring 35 goals in the process. The 29-year-old striker argues that the Saudi League is comparable to European football. He cited Al Hilal's 4-3 victory over Man City in the 2025 Club World Cup as evidence.
"Cristiano Ronaldo has played everywhere and said the Saudi League is a top league," Toney told the Guardian. "I believe if Al Ahli played in the Premier League, we would be good enough to compete for a top 4 spot."

According to the English striker, doubts about Saudi football mainly come from outside observers. Only the players competing in the league truly understand the level of competition. "We always feel the passion on the pitch and in the dressing room," Toney added. "It doesn't matter if there are 10, 10,000, or 20,000 spectators; our mission is always to win. The players here are capable of playing anywhere."
Despite finishing 5th in the domestic league last season, Al Ahli secured the AFC Champions League title, defeating Kawasaki Frontale in front of nearly 60,000 fans at King Abdullah Sports City. Toney has also started the new season strongly, scoring five goals in four games, including a hat-trick in the Kings Cup.
Toney also revealed that many European players are curious about life and careers in Saudi Arabia. "Some have asked me about my experience here. I always tell them if it feels right, they should give it a try. It's a quality league, and the opportunity is real. I came here because I'm happy. Other people can talk, but it doesn't bother me."
Before joining Al Ahli, Toney played three seasons in the Premier League for Brentford, scoring 36 goals in 83 matches and earning 68,000 USD per week before taxes. In Saudi Arabia, his salary increased tenfold to 680,000 USD per week, tax-free.
According to Opta's global club power rankings, Al Ahli is currently ranked 143rd. The top four Premier League clubs are Liverpool (1st), Arsenal (2nd), Man City (4th), and Chelsea (6th). The lowest-ranked Premier League team, Sunderland (71st), is still significantly higher than Al Ahli.
