Al Nassr coach: 'Ronaldo is a great example for world football'

Coach Jorge Jesus praised 40-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo's fighting spirit after Al Nassr's 2-1 victory over Al Ittihad in the Saudi Super Cup semi-final.

In the Hong Kong stadium on 19/8, Ronaldo didn't score but played prominently. The Portuguese superstar had 32 touches, an 86% passing accuracy with two key passes, two successful dribbles, and six shots with one on target.

His most significant contribution came in the 61st minute when Ronaldo beat the offside trap and crossed to Joao Felix, who scored into an empty net, sealing the 2-1 victory.

"Ronaldo is a great example for world football," Jorge Jesus praised his student after the match. "At 40, he still maintains excellent form, physique, and fighting spirit. And don't forget that 80% of the spectators came to the stadium because of Ronaldo. Al Nassr deserves to have such a global star."

In this match, Sadio Mane gave Al Nassr the lead in the 10th minute, shortly before Steven Bergwijn equalized. But from hero, Mane became a villain when he received a straight red card in the 25th minute. Despite being a man down, Al Nassr still controlled the game and scored the winning goal thanks to Felix.

Felix also put the ball in the back of the net in the 66th minute. But after VAR intervention, it was determined that Ronaldo had fouled Fabinho earlier, and the goal was disallowed. However, the 2-1 result was enough for Ronaldo to continue his journey to find his first title with Al Nassr.

According to Jorge Jesus, Al Nassr faced many difficulties playing in high humidity and being a man down from the middle of the first half – factors that made the victory even more meaningful.

"The team maintained its organization despite losing Mane early and deservedly won," the Portuguese coach said. "We scored two goals, and the third was also legitimate, but the referee decided to disallow it. That's his responsibility. For me, the score is 3-1. Al Ittihad only created one clear chance."

After the match, despite being sent off early, Mane posted a photo with congratulations to his teammates, adding, "Great team spirit. I am very happy with this victory. It's important to stay focused for the road ahead." Meanwhile, Ronaldo wrote briefly, "Let's go."

In the final, Al Nassr will face Al Ahli or Al Qadsiah, also at Hong Kong Stadium, on the evening of 23/8.
