"Writing these lines is truly not easy for me at all. After more than seven years together, my coach and I have decided to conclude our journey as coach and player", Alcaraz wrote on social media on 17/12.
Alcaraz began working with Ferrero, a former world number one tennis player, when he was just 15 years old. Under the guidance of the Spanish coach, Alcaraz achieved significant success, including winning 6 Grand Slams and becoming the youngest player to finish the year as world number one in 2022. That same year, he secured his first Grand Slam title at the US Open.

"Thank you for making my childhood dreams come true", Alcaraz added. "We started this journey when I was a child. You were always by my side throughout this wonderful journey, both on and off the court. We reached the top together, and I feel that if our professional paths must diverge, then parting ways at this point is the most complete".
During their collaboration, Alcaraz won 24 titles, including eight Masters 1000 titles and one Next Gen Finals title. The Spanish player will continue to work with Samuel Lopez, another coach on his team.
"You helped me grow not only as a player, but above all as a person. The most precious thing is that I truly enjoyed the entire process. The journey we shared, I will always keep it in my heart", Alcaraz's post stated.
Ferrero also shared similar sentiments in his own statement, though he did not specifically mention the reason for their separation. He described saying goodbye as never easy, given the numerous memorable experiences and memories they shared. The 2003 Roland Garros champion thanked Alcaraz for his trust and unwavering effort, wishing his former pupil all the best.
Despite the emotional messages from both sides, the news of Alcaraz and Ferrero's split shocked many and sparked curiosity about the true reason. In 2025, Ferrero was honored with the ATP Coach of the Year award, recognizing his contributions to Alcaraz's remarkable rise.
