On the evening of 23/7, Elliot Anderson debuted for Man City, signing a contract until summer 2031. The 23-year-old midfielder made headlines with statements believed to be aimed at city rivals Man Utd, a team reportedly also linked with him this summer. "Ever since I knew about football in Manchester, Man City have always been the kings of the city," Anderson said.

Anderson's bold declaration comes with historical backing. Since 2002, the year Anderson was born, Man City has won 26 titles, surpassing Man Utd's 24. This consistent success motivated Anderson to join the Etihad Stadium.
According to the English midfielder, the club's achievements and playing philosophy were major draws. "What Man City have achieved in the past 10 to 15 years is extraordinary," he stated. "They are a team always hungry for victory and titles. As soon as I knew Man City wanted me, I was determined to make this transfer happen. I always wanted to challenge myself at the highest level, and Man City offers that opportunity." Anderson also praised coach Enzo Maresca's football philosophy, stating that the Italian coach's high-energy and intense playing style suits his own game. "I am only 23, so I still have plenty of time to develop," he expressed. "I haven't reached my best version yet and believe I can go even further."
Anderson brings a wealth of experience despite his young age. He previously won the U21 European Championship with England in summer 2025 before coach Thomas Tuchel called him up to the national team. He has played 17 matches for the "Three Lions", including 8 at the 2026 World Cup.

During the Premier League 2025-2026 season, Anderson demonstrated his impact on the field. He averaged 2,8 dribbles per 90 minutes, ranking second among central and defensive midfielders. He also averaged 8,3 passes into the opponent's half per match, trailing only three other players. Anderson participated in 14% of Forest's total touches in the Premier League, the highest rate on the team despite the club having high possession. His ability to escape pressure, dictate tempo, pass, and support attacks made him a key link in Forest's playing style.
Even without the ball, Anderson impressed with his physical fitness and pressing ability. He consistently tracked opponents, dropped back to assist in defense, and averaged 1,4 interceptions per 90 minutes.
Anderson will rest for three weeks before joining Man City to prepare for the new season.
