After taking a two-goal lead, Betis unexpectedly slowed their tempo. In the 77th minute, Feyenoord's Tengstedt capitalized on the home goalkeeper rushing out of the 5,5-meter box, chipping the ball into the empty net to reduce the deficit to 1-2. However, Feyenoord ran out of time to find an equalizer.

The final match victory secured Betis's place in the top 8 of the Europa League group stage. They finished 4th with 17 points, one point ahead of 9th-placed Genk. The 8 teams qualifying directly for the round of 16 are: Lyon, Aston Villa, FC Midtjylland, Betis, Porto, Braga, Freiburg, and Roma.

The Europa League play-off draw is scheduled for 30/1. The two play-off legs will be held on 19/2 and 26/2. The draw for the round of 16 and subsequent stages will take place on 27/2.
