On the afternoon of 23/9, Gavi underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee. According to sources at Barca, the 21-year-old midfielder will be out until at least February 2026. In the event of any setbacks during his recovery, the Spanish star could even miss the World Cup next summer.

In November 2023, during Spain's match against Georgia, Gavi completely tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and damaged his meniscus. At the time, he was sidelined for over 11 months. During a recent arthroscopic examination, doctors discovered further issues with the meniscus, requiring a more invasive procedure.
Gavi was reportedly devastated upon learning he would miss at least half the season and potentially the World Cup. Coach Hansi Flick also expressed disappointment at losing one of his key and most promising players.
Gavi developed through Barca's La Masia academy before making his first-team debut in 2021. He has played 155 matches in just over four seasons, winning two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups, and one Copa del Rey. This season, he played only two La Liga matches before being completely sidelined since 30/8.
Gavi has also represented Spain since 2021, winning the 2022-2023 Nations League. Due to his previous long-term injury, the 21-year-old missed the Euro 2024 tournament. Individually, Gavi won the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy award in 2022, the two most prestigious awards for players under 21.
