The request was outlined in an official letter signed by General Director Dang Tran Chinh and sent to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) on 13/7.
Following the merger of Binh Duong, Ba Ria Vung Tau, and other provinces into the expanded TP HCM, the city now boasts 6 professional football clubs. In addition to Binh Duong FC and TP HCM FC, who both compete in the V-League, four other teams currently play in the First Division: Ba Ria Vung Tau, Tre TP HCM, Van Hien University, and Gia Dinh FC. According to VnExpress's findings, several of these teams are also expected to undergo name changes in the near future.

Binh Duong FC, originally founded as Song Be FC in 1976, changed its name to Becamex Binh Duong in 2002. Thanks to significant investment, the team, once nicknamed the "Chelsea of Vietnam," has won the V-League four times (in 2007, 2008, 2014, and 2015), the National Cup three times (1994, 2015, and 2018), the National Super Cup four times (2007, 2008, 2014, and 2015), and the Mekong Club Championship in 2014. They have also won the Binh Duong International Tournament – BTV Cup eight times.
In recent years, Binh Duong's performance has been inconsistent, failing to achieve significant results and frequently changing coaches. During the 2024-2025 season alone, they replaced coaches Hoang Anh Tuan and Nguyen Cong Manh before appointing former player Nguyen Anh Duc for the final stage.
After securing only a bronze medal in the National Cup, Binh Duong parted ways with foreign players Timite Cheick and Abdurakhmanov, and terminated contracts with assistant coach Tran Ngoc Thai Tuan and goalkeeper Vu Tuyen Quang. Key players like Que Ngoc Hai and Nguyen Tien Linh are also rumored to be seeking new teams.
Conversely, Binh Duong has recruited three new players: Phan Thanh Hau, To Phuong Thinh, and Cao Quoc Khanh.
