Chelsea changes course, loans Jackson to Bayern

Chelsea reversed its decision, agreeing to loan forward Nicolas Jackson to Bayern Munich on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window.

Jackson's move to Bayern was complex. According to Sky Sports, Bayern submitted an official offer to Chelsea on 7/8. The Premier League club then held internal discussions on 29/8 to decide Jackson's future.

On 30/8, Bayern reached an agreement to loan Jackson for 17 million USD, with an option to buy for 76 million USD, bringing the total potential value of the deal to 93 million USD.

That same day, Chelsea allowed Jackson to fly to Germany for a medical and to sign a contract with Bayern. However, Chelsea unexpectedly withdrew from the loan agreement due to Liam Delap's injury in their 2-0 Premier League victory against Fulham.

On 31/8, Jackson remained in Munich, hoping the deal would be revived. His agent affirmed they would do everything possible to complete the transfer.

On 1/9, the final day of the summer transfer window, the two clubs reached a new agreement – a loan with an obligation to buy, with the loan fee increased to 19.3 million USD.

The key to unlocking the deal was Chelsea securing a replacement. They recalled 19-year-old forward Marc Guiu from Sunderland, just 26 days after loaning him out.

"This was one of the most difficult but also the best deals we have ever done," Jackson's agent, Barat, stated after the transfer was finalized. "It seemed like the deal had collapsed, but we didn't leave Munich until we had tried everything. We thank Chelsea for their cooperation and appreciate Bayern's determination. Jackson deserves this opportunity."

The Senegalese forward will wear the number 11 shirt and serve as backup to Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena. "I am very happy to join a big club like Bayern," he commented on his first day. "This is a great team with legends everyone knows. I have big goals here and will give my all to help the club win more titles."

In addition to Jackson, Bayern signed defender Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer and forward Luis Diaz from Liverpool for 88 million USD during this transfer window.
