The Monte Carlo Masters is the only ATP 1000 tournament Djokovic has not won three times. In the other 8 Masters 1000 events, the Serbian player has won three or more titles. Therefore, Nole's withdrawal surprised many, as he appears to be giving up his ambition of achieving a 3x Golden Masters.
At the Masters 1000 level, the 24-time grand slam winner has claimed victory 5 times at Indian Wells, 6 times at Miami, two times at Monte Carlo, three at Madrid, 6 at Rome, 4 at Canada, three at Cincinnati, 4 at Shanghai, and 7 at Paris. Earlier this month, he withdrew from the Miami Open due to a right shoulder injury.

The player, who recently dropped to world number 4, stated he has been thinking more about retiring from competition, though he still maintains a strong desire for titles. "Of course, I want to win at least one more grand slam title, while maintaining my physical condition and continuing to play for many years to come," Djokovic said in an interview with Vanity Fair on 28/3. "Additionally, there are many other things I want to participate in and contribute to. I am very eager to see what the future holds, and I also want to witness that as a currently active player."
However, Djokovic also revealed his desire to spend more time with his family. Nole, his wife, and two children currently reside in suburban Athens, Greece. "There are many other projects I am eager to share with the world. I am interested in health, methods to extend athlete longevity, and mental health," Djokovic added. "I believe I can still contribute significantly in those areas."
When asked about career regrets, Djokovic admitted it was a feeling he had to learn to overcome, believing he should have performed better or made different decisions. The Serbian player stated he accepts his mistakes and tries not to dwell on them excessively, both in his professional and personal life.
At age 38 and approaching 39, Djokovic is no longer considered the world's best player, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner making strong advancements. Nevertheless, Nole has repeatedly shown he still cannot be ruled out of the championship race at any event. After missing Monte Carlo, which runs from 4-12/4, Djokovic is expected to return at the Madrid Masters, starting on 20/4.
