Djokovic meets Greek prime minister

After relocating from Serbia to Greece, Novak Djokovic met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to discuss tennis and his new life.

In addition to Djokovic, his younger brother Djordje was also invited to the Greek Government Office for discussions, alongside Thodoris Glava, president of the Hellenic Tennis Federation. On Instagram, Mitsotakis stated that the meeting focused on solutions to elevate Greek tennis, particularly following the recent successful ATP 250 Hellenic Championship.

The tournament, held in early november, was directed by Djordje and marked its debut on the ATP Tour schedule, taking place in Athens instead of the Belgrade Open. Mitsotakis attended the arena to watch Djokovic's matches during both days of the semifinals and final.

In the final match, Djokovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti to secure his 101st career title. Organizers hope the quality and appeal of this year's Hellenic Championship will establish Greece as a regular destination on the ATP circuit.

Due to disagreements with the Serbian government, the Djokovic family relocated to Athens a few months ago. Nole's two children, Stefan, 11 years old, and Tara, eight years old, are attending an international British school, which features outdoor tennis courts within its more than 80,000 square meters campus.

"When I play in Athens, I feel at home. I have long loved Greece", Djokovic stated at the Hellenic Championship. "I want to thank the people here for welcoming my family and me with such affection. The future is uncertain, but so far, this has been a wonderful and positive experience".

Greek media reported that Djokovic is considering applying for a Golden Visa, a residency permit obtained through investment. He had previously met Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis twice before enrolling his children in school.

According to local press, Djokovic is poised to receive approval for the construction of a multi-purpose complex, which will include more than 20 tennis, pickleball, and padel courts. The project is estimated to cost approximately USD 23 million. Djokovic's total career prize money exceeds USD 191,2 million.
