PSG and Donnarumma parted ways just before the European Super Cup in Italy, where the 6'5" goalkeeper is the national team captain. Yesterday, manager Luis Enrique announced Donnarumma's removal from the PSG squad, calling it a "difficult decision" but stating the club is "looking for a different image" in goal.

The same day on Instagram, Donnarumma sent a message to PSG fans: "Someone has decided that I can no longer contribute to the team. I am very disappointed and bitter. I hope I will be able to say goodbye directly to the fans. Playing for this club and living in Paris has been an honor for me".
Having spent 12 years with PSG, captain Marquinhos also expressed sadness when speaking about Donnarumma. "I am heartbroken to see Donnarumma leave," the Brazilian center-back said. "He was a leader and had a great season. If he stays, we will welcome him. If he leaves, we will say thank you".
According to Italian media, Donnarumma and his agent Enzo Raiola have been negotiating with both Manchester clubs since the beginning of the summer of 2025, but Man City has always had the upper hand. Man Utd has withdrawn from the race and is not prioritizing signing a new goalkeeper this summer. The Italian goalkeeper has agreed to join Man City but the two clubs still need to reach an agreement.
Man City has been pursuing Donnarumma since last season and is waiting for goalkeeper Ederson to complete his transfer to Galatasaray before entering into specific negotiations with PSG. The price PSG is asking for is reportedly lower than the 47 million USD (fixed) and 18 million USD (bonuses) they paid to acquire Lucas Chevalier from Lille. According to British media, Man City may have to pay PSG more than 50 million USD.
Donnarumma's contract with PSG is set to expire in the summer of 2026. He is currently earning 14 million USD per year after taxes. If he does not take a pay cut, the 26-year-old goalkeeper will be among the highest-paid players at Man City.
