In his first press conference since joining Man City from PSG for a fee of 35 million USD, the 26-year-old goalkeeper admitted he still has much to improve. "I'm working with one of the best managers in the world in terms of passing. So, he can help me a lot," Donnarumma said.
Donnarumma made an impressive debut, with an incredible save from Bryan Mbeumo's stunning volley in the Manchester derby. He also kept a clean sheet and looked assured dealing with aerial balls.

The Italian goalkeeper wasn't always first choice at PSG due to his passing weakness. Manager Luis Enrique even suggested that Donnarumma wasn't up to par in this area, despite playing a significant role in their Champions League triumph last season. Guardiola has a similar philosophy to Enrique, so many worried Donnarumma would face similar issues at Man City.
However, the 1.96 m goalkeeper revealed that Man City had been tracking him for three months and that Guardiola personally pushed for the move. "I knew they really wanted me, especially after the FIFA Club World Cup," he added. "The feeling and trust from the team gave me only one choice: Man City."
This transfer coincided with Ederson's departure from Etihad to join Fenerbahce for 16 million USD, concluding eight successful years. Donnarumma directly replaced Ederson, a goalkeeper Guardiola considered the best with his feet.

Donnarumma stated that he and his teammates can dream big this season, with the ultimate goal of winning the Champions League. Their first opponent on this journey will be Napoli at Etihad Stadium. Antonio Conte's side are the reigning Serie A champions and have won their first three matches this season. "Napoli have many dangerous players, especially McTominay. They have power, speed, and sharpness," Donnarumma observed.
The match is even more special for Donnarumma, as he was born in Castellammare di Stabia, a town near Naples, and played for Napoli's academy before joining Milan at 13. "I'm a Napoli fan," he shared. "So is my family, so it will be a special feeling. My mother will be in a difficult position, but hopefully, she'll support me."
Guardiola anticipates the reunion with Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder has scored two goals in three games for Napoli. "It's no surprise he's started well. Players of that caliber usually adapt quickly," the Spanish manager commented.
