Returning to the stadium where he won the 2023 world championship, Duplantis faced competition only from Greek rival Emmanouil Karalis. Both cleared 6.02 m on their first attempts.
The difference came when Karalis stopped after two failures at 6.11 m, while Duplantis cleared this height to secure the championship. But the Swedish star continued to compete, raising the bar to 6.29 m with the aim of breaking the record.

Duplantis' achievements and times over 13 world pole vault record breaks. |
After his first miss, Duplantis rallied the crowd's support and accelerated on his second attempt. Silence fell over the stadium as Duplantis touched the bar, causing it to wobble. He fell onto the mat and, seeing the bar hadn't fallen, ran off to celebrate.
Duplantis then went into the stands to hug and celebrate with his fiancee, Desire Inglander, something he always does after victories.
"Duplantis is approaching 6.30 m - a milestone many considered unthinkable a few years ago. But now, it's only a matter of time before Duplantis conquers and even surpasses 6.30 m," commented Spanish newspaper AS.
This is the 13th time Duplantis has broken the world pole vault record, and the third time in 2025. Previously, he cleared 6.28 m at the Wanda Diamond League in Sweden in May and 6.27 m at the All Star Perche in France on 28/2.
Duplantis first broke the record in 2020 with 6.17 m. Since then, he has set 12 more records, each time increasing by one cm.
According to Forbes magazine, Duplantis is fully capable of further shattering records. But currently, athletes only receive a $100,000 bonus for breaking a record at a competition. This means that if he breaks two records or increases by 2 cm or more to break a record in a single competition, Duplantis still only receives $100,000. Therefore, he breaks the record by only one cm each time to earn more prize money.

According to AS, in addition to the official amount, Duplantis also receives bonuses from two sponsors: sports brand Puma and energy drink brand Red Bull. In total, each record could bring Duplantis more than $150,000. According to this calculation, the collection of world records has helped the Swedish athlete earn about $2 million.
The Swedish star is a two-time Olympic champion (2020, 2024), a two-time outdoor world champion (2022, 2023), a two-time indoor world champion, and the reigning European and Diamond League champion.
