Players journey through various stages of Van Gogh's life, from early doubts and his time in Paris to his final years. The narrative unfolds through the letters exchanged between Van Gogh and his brother Theo, depicting their enduring bond, his artistic reflections, self-doubt, and Theo's unwavering belief. According to Jenova Chen, Chief Executive Officer and Creative Director of thatgamecompany, the experience aims to portray Van Gogh not just as an artistic genius, but also to highlight the role of those who loved and believed in him throughout his life. Chen stated the studio seeks to convey the message of companionship and faith, especially during times when individuals lose confidence in themselves.

"With Dear Van Gogh, we want players to feel what it is like to be believed in, especially in moments when you no longer believe in yourself. That is the emotion we hope each player will carry with them, even after the experience concludes," said the Chief Executive Officer of thatgamecompany.
Players can also utilize 'Sky: Children of the Light's' distinctive brushstroke mechanic to collaborate with other players, restoring color and light to the in-game world. Upon completing the journey, the experience concludes with a reflection on Van Gogh's life and legacy, offering a fresh perspective on one of art history's most influential painters.
Beyond the in-game experience, thatgamecompany is also hosting an interactive 'Dear Van Gogh' art space at Aeon Mall Celadon Tan Phu, TP HCM, on 15-16/8. This event caters to the Sky player community and Van Gogh art enthusiasts, featuring interactive activities and opportunities for connection.
