In the 27th minute, Manchester United opened the scoring with an own goal from midfielder Josh Cullen during a set piece. The Red Devils became the first team in Premier League history to have their first two goals of the season scored by the opposition. Despite this advantage, the home side squandered numerous opportunities, including Amad Diallo's miss in front of an open goal.
Manchester United's missed chances proved costly in the 55th minute when midfielder Jacob Bruun Larsen crossed from the right for striker Lyle Foster to tap in an equalizer. No home player marked either the crosser or the scorer in this instance.
Manchester United regained the lead immediately from the restart. Joshua Zirkzee headed the ball down for Diogo Dalot, who broke down the left side of the penalty area. The Portuguese defender then passed back to Bryan Mbeumo for a close-range finish. This was the first goal scored by a Manchester United player this season.
The Red Devils were pegged back again in the 66th minute from another set piece. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir failed to clear a volley sufficiently, allowing midfielder Jaidon Anthony to score from close range.
