Heinze was Arteta's teammate at PSG during the 2001-2002 season. In 2004, after joining Man Utd, the former Argentinian defender immediately became the first-choice left-back. Heinze played three seasons, totaling 83 appearances for the "Red Devils," scoring 4 goals, winning the club's Player of the Year award for the 2004-2005 season and the Premier League title in 2006-2007.
In the summer of 2007, Man Utd sold Heinze to Real Madrid. The former Argentina star became the third Man Utd player to join the Bernabeu, following David Beckham and Ruud Van Nistelrooy. With the Spanish club, he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup.
Towards the end of his playing career, Heinze played for Marseille and Roma. In 2014, he retired at his hometown club, Newell's Old Boys.
Heinze earned 72 caps for the Argentinian national team from 2003 to 2010, playing alongside Lionel Messi in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.
Heinze began his coaching career in 2015, managing 5 clubs: Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors, Velez Sarsfield, Atlanta United, and Newell's Old Boys. The 47-year-old's greatest achievement was winning the Argentinian second division title in the 2016-2017 season with Argentinos Juniors.
Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League for the past three seasons. Arteta's current assistant coaching team includes Albert Stuivenberg, Nicolas Jover, Miguel Molina, Inaki Cana, and now Gabriel Heinze.
This summer, Arsenal has only acquired goalkeeper Kepa from Chelsea. They are preparing to sign midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard, while also pursuing forwards Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.
